Everything West does to control global economy motivated by neo-colonial instinct — Lavrov

It is reported that the manipulation of global trade rules, including those of the World Trade Organization, can also be ascribed to the West's unsavory attempts to maintain its dominance

NEW DELHI, March 2. /TASS/. The West persistently seeks to subordinate the global economy to its own interests following its own neo-colonial instincts, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday following the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting.

"Unfortunately, the West has not abandoned its neocolonial habits and ambitions," he said. "Everything that is now being done to subjugate the global economy to the interests of the West is nothing more than neo-colonial instincts and neo-colonial practice," Lavrov added.

Regarding the unilateral, illegitimate sanctions used by the West to punish "undesirables," Lavrov pointed out that during the meeting, "many members of the G20" from developing countries spoke about [sanctions] as measures harming the world economy and, in particular, food and energy security.

"The West continues to promote its interests in other ways, by other methods and in the new conditions, without taking into account the interests of the overwhelming majority of other members of the global community," the minister said. "This includes attempts to manipulate prices on global markets. If you look at the root of the problem, the announcement of the so-called oil price cap by Western countries is nothing but the theft of other people's natural resources," he added.

The manipulation of global trade rules, including those of the World Trade Organization, can also be ascribed to the West's unsavory attempts to maintain its dominance, he said.

According to the minister, some of the developing countries, being "under colossal, indecent, immoral pressure," are forced to act in such a way as to "weaken the pressure of the United States and its allies," but practically "not a single developing country - except perhaps one or two - has joined sanctions against Russia."
