BUDAPEST, February 13. /TASS/. Hungary expects that the telephone call on February 12 between the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump respectively, will serve as a step towards ending the conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said.
"We have been living for three years in the shadow of the war, and for three years we have been hoping that it will come to an end," Szijarto wrote on his Facebook account (banned in Russia due to its ownership by Meta designated as extremist). "The telephone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin was another step towards this hope coming true."
"We hope that after this telephone conversation, successful negotiations will take place and peace will return to Central Europe three years later," Hungary’s top diplomat added.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced earlier that Putin's telephone call with Trump on Wednesday lasted almost for an hour and a half and they discussed among other things the conflict in Ukraine, the ongoing developments in the Middle East, as well as the issue of the swap of convicted citizens of the two countries.
The leaders of Russia and the United States agreed to continue contacts and hold a personal meeting in the future.
