No outbreaks of coronavirus strain found in UK recorded in Russia, expert says

Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Anna Popova said earlier that the first case of the new coronavirus strain had been detected in the country

MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/. No outbreaks of the coronavirus strain found in the United Kingdom have been recorded in Russia so far, only one such case has been identified, Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing’s Central Research Institute of Epidemiology Alexander Gorelov told TASS.

"Only one case of the new coronavirus strain has been detected in Russia so far. The patient was timely identified and isolated, and has already recovered. No outbreaks have been recorded," he pointed out.

According to Gorelov, the virus strain discovered in the UK is more contagious than others.

Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Anna Popova said earlier that the first case of the new coronavirus strain had been detected in the country.

British researchers discovered the new strain in mid-December. Many countries, including Russia, suspended flights to and from the United Kingdom in a bid to stop the new virus strain from spreading. On January 12, Russia extended the flight suspension until February 1.
