MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Several hundred Russians staying in the Gaza Strip and Egypt are waiting to be evacuated, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told RT.

"I can say that, indeed, a significant number, several hundred of our citizens remain in the Gaza Strip and on the territory of Egypt awaiting evacuation. Some of them remain on the territory of the Gaza Strip, some have already crossed the relevant border and are waiting for evacuation in Egypt," the diplomat said.

Zakharova emphasized that internet and communication services have been down for some time in the Gaza Strip. "Many people who wanted to leave the Gaza Strip were unable to even report this," she pointed out.

As the diplomat emphasized, Russia continues to receive requests from Russians, so evacuation efforts will continue.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when Hamas militants staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel has announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and has been delivering air strikes on Gaza as well as some parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also underway in the West Bank.
