US presidential election unlikely to mend Moscow-Washington relations — Russian diplomat

"That is why taking care of this deep crisis in relations with the United States while further developing partnership with China is the path that I believe we [Russia] should take," Sergey Ryabkov noted

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The prospect of relations between Moscow and Washington getting better is unlikely regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election in 2024, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Monday.

"As for relations with the United States, I believe that there are simply no prospects for improving them let alone seeing them move in any kind of a positive direction, which simply is not the case today," he said speaking at the Primakov Readings international forum.

"They [the prospects] have nothing to do with who will emerge victorious in the election campaign, who will become the next president of the United States and how the [political] forces will be distributed among both houses of the [US] Congress," Ryabkov said.

"That is why taking care of this deep crisis in relations with the United States while further developing partnership with China is the path that I believe we [Russia] should take," the Russian diplomat noted.

The 9th Primakov Readings international forum is being held in Moscow from November 27 to 28. TASS is the general information partner of the Primakov Readings international forum and conference.
