US opposes ceasefire between Palestine, Israeli, senior Russian diplomat claims

The Americans have given Israel a carte blanche for continued military operations, as they support the Jewish state both via political and diplomatic means and in practice, Mikhail Bogdanov underlined

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. The United States opposes a ceasefire in the conflict between Palestine and Israel, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said, addressing a meeting at the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society.

"What would a ceasefire mean now? Even releasing those hostages, including Israeli citizens, who are currently being held on Gaza territory, taking foreigners away <...>. The Americans oppose that," said Bogdanov, who is also Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa.

The Americans have given Israel a carte blanche for continued military operations, as they support the Jewish state both via political and diplomatic means and in practice, the senior Russian diplomat underlined.

Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7 when Hamas militants launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian movement described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel declared a total siege of Gaza and started carrying out strikes on the Palestinian enclave, as well as on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
