Monkeypox spread in Europe causes serious concern — Medvedev

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Monkeypox cases in Europe cause serious concern, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday at a meeting of the Security Council’s commission on establishing a national system of protection against new infections.

He noted that "not very good news is coming from Europe" concerning monkeypox cases. "Although these are isolated cases but they cause serious concern anyway," he said.

The monkeypox virus, which was identified in several European countries in April-May, has been detected in the United States, Canada, and Australia. By today, monkeypox cases have been reported from ten countries. Russia’s sanitary watchdog has assessed the risks of importing this infection to Russia as "very low".
