BEIJING, December 3. /TASS/. The last section of the gas pipeline connecting Russia and China has been put into operation in eastern China, China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation said.
The last section connects Nantong to Luzhi in Jiangsu Province in eastern China, with all parts of the Sino-Russian energy project now linked, the operator said.
The Chinese part of the gas pipeline begins in the border town of Heihe in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang and runs from the north to the south, reaching Shanghai. This energy project "has contributed significantly to the improvement of China’s energy consumption structure," the operator noted.
In 2023, Gazprom boosted gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline by 1.5 times to 22.7 bln cubic meters, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said earlier, adding that they could total 30 bln cubic meters by the end of this year. The holding said in November that supplies by the end of 2024 would exceed contract obligations.
Gazprom and China’s CNPC agreed earlier to bring supplies of Russian gas to China via Power of Siberia to the maximum level starting December 2024, instead of the beginning of 2025. Previously, the Russian gas producer had planned to bring this gas pipeline to its design capacity of 38 bln cubic meters starting from January 1, 2025.
