Self-propelled equipment for mine on Taimyr to be assembled at depth of 800 meters

This facility will be used for repairing and service works, for assembly of large-component equipment returning to the mine after overhauling

KRASNOYARSK, January 20. /TASS/. The self-propelled equipment for mining at the Talnakhsky and Oktyabrsky deposits in the Krasnoyarsk Region’s north will be assembled at the depth of 800 meters in the Skalisty mine, the Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Skalisty mine is the deepest mine in Eurasia (2,056 meters). It was made to develop the Talnakhsky and Oktyabrsky deposits. The resource is about 60 million tonnes of ores with high nickel content. The project to develop the mine is estimated at about 134 billion rubles ($1.8 billion). In 2022, the company will begin developing the rich ores deposit (deep layers of the Oktyabrsky deposit) at the depth of more than 1,700 meters.

"The facility, where the self-propelled equipment will be assembled, has been organized at the depth of 800 meters in the Verkhnyaya mine, the Skalisty ore deposit (Nornickel’s Polar Division)," the company’s press service said. "The new facility has been made under an investment project to begin production at the Talnakhsky and Oktyabrsky deposits of rich ores." The facility has been projected by Norilsk Nickel’s primary R&D center, Gipronickel.
