Russian warships strike enemy air targets in Baltic drills

The frigate Neustrashimy accomplished firings from a Kinzhal seaborne surface-to-air missile system while the corvettes Boiky, Stoiky and Soobrazitelny struck adversary aerial targets from A-190 and AK-630 artillery guns

KALININGRAD, March 12. /TASS/. The crews of the Russian Baltic Fleet’s frigate Neustrashimy and corvettes Boiky, Stoiky and Soobrazitelny accomplished firings from onboard surface-to-air missile systems and artillery guns against a notional enemy’s aerial targets during drills in the Baltic Sea, the Fleet’s press office reported on Tuesday.

"During the drills at the Baltic Fleet’s naval training ranges, the frigate and the corvettes practiced repelling a notional enemy’s aerial attacks and destroying aerial targets," the press office said in a statement.

The frigate Neustrashimy accomplished firings from a Kinzhal seaborne surface-to-air missile system while the corvettes Boiky, Stoiky and Soobrazitelny struck adversary aerial targets from A-190 and AK-630 artillery guns. The firings were conducted against simulated aerial targets and special illumination shells, it specified.

"All the targets were destroyed as a result of the firings," it said.

During the drills, combat teams of the warships’ radio-technical, missile and artillery combat units practiced interoperability in detecting, identifying and tracking targets by radio-technical equipment and destroying them, the press office reported.

"For safety reasons, the area covered by combat exercises in the Baltic Sea and the air space over it were declared as temporarily dangerous for shipping and flights by all types of aircraft," it said.
