BELGRADE, September 27. /TASS/. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed a letter of resignation as head of state during an address to the nation.

According to Vucic, acting National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic will temporarily assume the duties of president. Vucic stressed that he would transfer his powers to her on Monday. Under the constitution, an election for a new president must be held before December 27.

Snap parliamentary elections in Serbia will be held on October 25. Vucic will head the list of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party and will be its candidate for prime minister. His main opponent is 56-year-old Novi Sad cardiologist Ilija Srdanovic, who leads the Student List coalition.
