Armenian Foreign Minister assures there is no political crisis in country

Small rallies do not mean that they have the support of the citizens, Ararat Mirzoyan noted

YEREVAN, June 9. /TASS/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, speaking at a press conference following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, commented on the opposition's anti-government rallies and said there is no political crisis in the country.

"I can unequivocally assure you that there is no political crisis in Armenia. First of all, last summer extraordinary elections were held, during which the citizens of Armenia expressed their opinion on some questions and resolved the political crisis that existed at that time. Secondly, small rallies do not mean that they have the support of our citizens," he said.

Large-scale protests by opposition forces have been going on in Armenia since May 1, involving the Armenia bloc and the Republican Party, as well as the Dashnaktsutyun and Rodina parties. Their representatives claim that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is going to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as part of that country. Protests take place in Yerevan almost every day.
