Half of serious cyberattacks on online voting systems coming from US — CEC chief

According to Ella Pamfilova, the number of attacks on the Gosuslugi public services website is "also running high"

MOSCOW, September 17. /TASS/. Russia's federal platform for remote online voting is facing serious cyberattacks, half of which are originating from the United States, Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said at the CEC information center on Friday.

"Our website vybory.gov.ru is facing serious attacks related to remote online voting. As for the countries, 50% of the attacks are coming from the US, 25% from Germany, 20% from South Korea and another five percent from China," she specified.

According to Pamfilova, the number of attacks on the Gosuslugi public services website is "also running high." "As for countries, 50% of attacks are coming from the US, 25% from Germany, ten percent from Russia, another ten percent from China and five percent from Ukraine. It means that we aren't making up any allegations, the elections are attracting lots of interest," the CEC chief noted.

Elections to the eighth Russian State Duma (the lower house of parliament) are taking place on September 17, 18, and 19. In addition to the State Duma elections, voters are casting their ballots for the heads of nine Russian regions and members of 39 regional parliaments.
