Moscow investigators closed almost 500 past crimes in last three years

In the past two years, 76 murder cases, 23 grievous body harm cases and 27 rape cases were solved

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. In the past three years, Moscow investigators found perpetrators of 485 grievous crimes from past years, materials on 800 more cases are in the works, Moscow Main Investigative Directorate press service told TASS Thursday.

"Investigation of grievous crimes of past years, beginning from the 1990s, where perpetrators still have not been found, remains among the Investigative Directorate’s priority fields of work," the press service said, adding that, thanks to measures taken during the last two years, the clearance rate in such crimes began to grow.

"If, in 2018, 46 crimes of past years ended in criminal proceedings, then, in 2019, it was 162 cases, and 327 - in 2020," the press service said.

In the past two years, 76 murder cases, 23 grievous body harm cases and 27 rape cases were solved.

According to the Directorate, 830 old cases remain in the works. In 2020 alone, 104 cases were reopened, after the investigators deemed that finding perpetrators in these cases may be possible.
