Algerian gas cannot change situation with gas supplies for France — Macron

The French leader pointed out that France were not competing for Algerian gas with Italy

PARIS, August 26. /TASS/. Algerian gas will not be able to change the situation with gas supplies to France, President Emmanuel Macron told reporters during the visit to Algeria.

"Our gas dependence is not so heavy," the French leader said. "Algerian gas cannot change the situation [with gas supplies to France - TASS]," Macron said.

Gas supplies account for about 20% in the France’s energy balance, the President said. "Concerning the share of Algeria in total gas supplies to France, it makes up to 8-9%," he noted. Macron at the same time noted "Algeria’s contribution to diversification of gas supplies to Europe."

"We are not competing for Algerian gas with Italy," Macron said. "On the contrary, I appreciate the increase in supplies over the gas pipeline to Italy," he noted. "This is good for Italy, this is good for Europe. This will improve diversification in Europe," the President added.
