NEW YORK, September 27. /TASS/. Four leading US television networks will resume covering events featuring US President Donald Trump starting Sunday, The New York Times (NYT) reported, citing sources.
Previously, five networks — ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC — which belong to the White House press pool and are required to alternate in accompanying the president and distributing footage of him, had refused to do so. This came after Trump barred CNN, as well as MSNBC and Politico, from the White House. According to the newspaper, ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC will return to their press pool duties on Sunday. "Each time that CNN comes up in the pool rotation, the group of networks will decide whether to provide a substitute crew. Otherwise, CNN’s slot will be left unfilled, and Mr. Trump will not receive major network coverage," the NYT noted.
On September 18, Trump announced that he was revoking White House access for journalists from CNN, MSNBC, and Politico for spreading false information about his administration. He added that the list of banned media outlets could be expanded but acknowledged the possibility of reversing his decision. Correspondents and technical staff from these outlets lost access to the US president's residence on September 19.
Later, a court in the District of Columbia overturned Trump's decision. However, the Secret Service, which is responsible for the security of top officials, still barred journalists from CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from entering the White House. The Washington administration agreed to grant access only after representatives from these media outlets returned to court.
