Embraer representatives arrive in Aktau to investigate crash

Kazakhstan’s authorities earlier stated that analysis of the black boxes from the crashed Embraer 190, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, would commence following the arrival of Brazilian experts on December 27

ASTANA, December 27. /TASS/. Representatives from the manufacturer of the Embraer 190 passenger plane have arrived in Aktau, Kazakhstan, where the aircraft crashed, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport reported.

"Under Annex 13 of the Chicago Convention [on International Civil Aviation], the designated representatives of the Embraer manufacturer have arrived in Aktau from Brazil. The investigation commission has outlined further steps at the crash site," the ministry said in a statement. It added that experts from Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) "are expected soon to join the probe."

Kazakhstan’s authorities earlier stated that analysis of the black boxes from the crashed Embraer 190, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, would commence following the arrival of Brazilian experts on December 27.

On December 26, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev explained at a briefing that Brazilian experts would decide "how and in what manner to decode these self-recording devices." It was earlier reported that two black boxes had been found at the crash site.

The Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25. The plane carried 67 people, including 62 passengers, mostly citizens of Azerbaijan, as well as nationals of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and five crew members. According to the latest reports, 38 people, including seven Russians, were killed, while 29 others survived. A special flight sent by Russia’s Emergencies Ministry has transported nine Russian nationals, including a child, who were injured in the crash, from Aktau.
