Briton sentenced to death in Donbass hopes for milder punishment, says his lawyer

Shaun Pinner insists his sentence be appealed

DONETSK, June 17. /TASS/. A British national, sentenced to death in the Donetsk People’s Republic for fighting on Ukraine’s side as a mercenary, hopes for a milder punishment, his defense lawyer told TASS.

Shaun Pinner may instead face a life sentence, lawyer Yuliya Tserkovnikova said.

"It is the DPR’s court that will make a decision," she said. "An alternative may be a life sentence."

Pinner insists his sentence be appealed, the lawyer added.

The DPR’s court sentenced UK citizens Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin, and Saadun Brahim from Morocco to death for fighting as mercenaries on Ukraine’s side. They were captured in Donbass.
