BEIJING, October 12. /TASS/. China is set to accelerate the modernization of its national defense and armed forces, Xinhua news agency reported on Monday, citing a communique issued following a plenary session of the Chinese Communist Party on Wednesday.

According to the agency, participants in the plenary session agreed that in the midst of the complicated international situation it is necessary to expedite the modernization of the national defense and armed forces.

Xinhua reported earlier that "the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) concluded its seventh plenary session in Beijing on Wednesday with a communique issued. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made an important speech at the four-day session, which was presided over by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee."
