Chinese artist Yuechen Han donates painting to Tretyakov Gallery for Tibet exhibition

The exhibition is devoted to the culture and natural beauty of Tibet, with a special emphasis on the depiction of man

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Famous Chinese artist and photographer Yuechen Han has unveiled an exhibition in the Engineering Building of the Tretyakov Gallery dedicated to Tibet within the Russian-Chinese Cross Years of Culture 2024-2025, a TASS correspondent reports.

At the opening, the painter donated his painting "One thousand psalms" to the gallery.

"I would like to thank you for the painting 'One thousand psalms,' which you donated today to the Tretyakov Gallery collection," Tatyana Gorodkova, deputy general director for research at the gallery, said at its opening.

The exhibition is devoted to the culture and natural beauty of Tibet, with a special emphasis on the depiction of man. The heroes of most of the paintings can be seen working in the fields, performing religious rituals and participating in festivals. Children are especially prevalent in the artist's work.

"When China opened its doors, I was able to travel abroad and came to Russia for the first time, and visited the Tretyakov Gallery as well. That's when I realized the power and beauty of Russian art. Back then, it was a discovery for me what Tretyakov was doing. Following his example, I also established my own museum, started collecting art objects and paintings," Yuechen Han said at the opening ceremony.

According to Xiaoming Qian, the curator of the project, the exhibition has become a bridge for friendship between China and Russia. "I should say that Mr. Han is also from that pleiad of artists, creative people who borrowed heavily from Russian art, the Soviet art of the 20th century," he added.

The exhibition includes more than 40 oil paintings from the collection of Yuchen Han's Handan Museum. The exhibition is open to the public from April 9 to May 19.
