Trump warns Britain, Canada against closer ties with China

The US leader believes that it is especially dangerous for Ottawa "to get into business" with Beijing and it shouldn't look at China as the answer to its problems

WASHINGTON, January 30. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said the UK and Canada are taking risks by pursuing closer relations with China.

"It’s very dangerous for them to do that. And it’s even more dangerous, I think, for Canada to get into business with China," he said when asked to comment on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to China. "Canada is not doing well. They're doing very poorly, and you can't look at China as the answer. I know [Chinese] President Xi [Jinping] is a friend of mine. I know him very well. But that (China - TASS) is a big hurdle to go over," the American leader added.

Trump also jokingly suggested that China could even ban ice hockey in Canada.
