Impossible to expel Russia from IAEA - Russian diplomat

"Such an option is not envisaged by the charter," Mikhail Ulyanov stressed

VIENNA, March 27. /TASS/. It is impossible to remove Russia from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), since such an option is not envisaged by its charter, Russian Permanent Representative to the Vienna-based international organizations Mikhail Ulyanov told TASS on Sunday, commenting on the statement by adviser to the Ukrainian energy minister, Elena Zerkal, on the work on expelling Russian from the IAEA.

"It is difficult for me to comment on the Ukrainian ministerial adviser’s ignorant statement. First, she’d better read the IAEA charter to see: it is impossible to expel Russia or any other country. Such an option is not envisaged by the charter," he stressed.

Zerkal said earlier that Ukraine and its partners are working on expelling Russia from the IAEA. "We are working with the partners on expelling Russia from the IAEA, or, at least, on decreasing its role there and removing it from the key positions in the Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency," she said in an interview with the NB radio station.
