Power units of Zaporozhye nuke plant to remain in 'cold shutdown' mode over winter

Alexey Likhachev noted that about 3,000 people are currently working at the nuclear facility which is enough to ensure its security and efficient management

YEKATERINBURG, November 15. /TASS/. The six power units of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) are in a "cold shutdown" mode and will remain in this state through the winter, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, told journalists during a working visit to the Urals region city of Yekaterinburg.

"All six energy blocks are in a ‘cold shutdown’ mode. We have developed the energy system of Energodar and the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant to the extent where we do not need to raise the temperature or switch any of the power units to a ‘hot shutdown’ mode. They will remain like this for the entire winter in the safest cold state," he said.

He added that about 3,000 people are currently working at the nuclear facility which is enough to ensure its security and efficient management.
