Russia’s national football squad down one spot in newly published FIFA World Ranking

On February 28, it was reported that the Russian national team and all professional clubs representing the country were barred from taking part in FIFA tournaments

MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. The Russian national football team dropped one place in the FIFA World Ranking, according to the list published by the world’s governing body of football on Thursday.

The Russian squad is now holding 36th place with 1,493.42 points below the national football team of Tunisia (35th place with 1,499.8 points).

Brazil tops the FIFA World Ranking with 1,832.69 points ahead of the teams from Belgium (2nd place, 1,827 points) and reigning World Champions France (3rd place, 1,789.85 points).

The rest of the Top-10 after the current podium of Brazil, Belgium and France are: 4th Argentina (1,765.13 points); 5th England (1,761.71 points); 6th Italy (1,723.31); 7th Spain (1,709.19); 8th Portugal (1,674.78); 9th Mexico (1,658.82) and 10th the Netherlands (1,658.66 points).

The press service of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) announced on February 28 that the Russian national team and all professional clubs representing the country were barred from taking part in FIFA tournaments.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) stated later the same decision in regard to Russian football. Both FIFA and UEFA linked their decision to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

The Russian national football team finished the qualifying group stage for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2nd place of Group H with 22 points after 10 matches, which saw the Russian squad proceeding to the playoffs, where they had another chance to qualify for the world’s largest football tournament.
