BEIJING, December 3. /TASS/. China will deepen practical cooperation with BRICS partners for global economic stability and resilience, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian said at a briefing, commenting on US President-elect Donald Trump’s threats of customs duties on goods from BRICS countries.
"China expresses its willingness to continue working with BRICS partners to deepen practical cooperation in various areas, aiming to make an even bigger contribution to the stable and resilient growth of the global economy," the diplomat said.
BRICS’ aim is to achieve comprehensive development and prosperity, he said, adding that integration favors openness, inclusiveness, and mutually beneficial cooperation. The alliance "does not deal with bloc confrontation," and cooperation within it is not aimed against other countries, Lin Jian said.
Earlier, Trump wrote on his Truth Social page that he would impose 100% customs duties on goods from BRICS member states should the alliance move away from the dollar.
Commenting on Trump’s words, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the dollar's "erosion" is intensifying. The dollar is becoming less and less attractive as a reserve currency for a number of countries, Peskov said.
