MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. Attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) could ultimately be viewed as analogous to a nuclear strike, potentially resulting in severe repercussions for the nation responsible, according to Ulrike Reisner, an independent political observer and co-founder of the BRENNUS Institute Paris-Vienna.
"I would like to address the situation in Ukraine and the Zaporozhye NPP. In our interconnected world, certain technologies pose risks that could lead to catastrophic consequences across vast regions. Therefore, we believe it is essential to establish a protective system for such critical infrastructure," she stated during a discussion at the Valdai Club focused on nuclear energy and the outcomes of the IAEA Board of Governors session.
Reisner emphasized that international protections should include granting neutral status to nuclear facilities, arguing that this approach prioritizes "the protection of all peoples, rather than the territorial integrity of a single state."
She further asserted, "A direct prohibition on strikes against such technological facilities and their use in military operations is imperative. Otherwise, these actions will be regarded as analogous to a nuclear strike and will entail appropriate consequences for the attacking nation."
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry urged the international community to respond urgently and decisively to the ongoing attacks by the Kiev regime on Russian nuclear energy infrastructure. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova highlighted the necessity of compelling Kiev to "cease endangering the lives of countries and peoples in Europe and beyond, as this reckless regime is willing to sacrifice them for its criminal agenda by staging a disaster" at Russia's largest nuclear power plant, the ZNPP.
