Russia designs flying wing drone

"Besides the military operation in Ukraine, the drone can be used in the oil and gas industry and everywhere where long patrols are necessary," the Vostok Design Bureau pointed out

MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Russian specialists are designing a flying wing drone for reconnaissance, fire adjustment and communications relay. It is intended for the new Scalpel attack platform, the Vostok Design Bureau told TASS.

"A flying wing craft is being designed with a 3-meter wingspan. Trials are expected by the end of February 2024. The drone will engage in reconnaissance and communications relay, including for the Scalpel new attack platform. It will also be used to control target destruction and adjust artillery fire," it said.

Flight duration is six hours, the range is a hundred kilometers, and the payload is up to four kilograms.

"Besides the military operation in Ukraine, the drone can be used in the oil and gas industry and everywhere where long patrols are necessary. The engagement range of the craft is broad," the bureau said.

The new drone will have a lower cost compared to existing analogues. "The main mission of the bureau is to make airplane-type drones affordable," it said.

The Scalpel loitering munition of Vostok is already operating in Ukraine.
