Half of YouTube traffic moved to Russian video hosting websites — minister

The YouTube started malfunctioning on August 1, which also affected Russian users of the video hosting app on iOS and Android

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Half of YouTube traffic in Russia has moved to Russian platforms, Russian Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev said.

"We are now aware of the development of our own major platforms. These are platforms with user video content. We need an alternative and we see that there are competitors ready to enter these markets. This is happening very quickly. We see that the traffic that YouTube loses, half of this traffic 'lands' on Russian platforms," Shadayev said.

The YouTube started malfunctioning on August 1, which affected users of the video hosting app on iOS and Android, as well as in browser.
