European Council president says Navalny’s detention is unacceptable

Navalny was wanted for violating terms of his suspended sentence under the Yves Rocher case

BRUSSELS, January 17. /TASS/. European Council President Charles Michel has described the detention of Russia opposition blogger Alexey Navalny as unacceptable and called on Russian authorities to release him.

"The detainment of Alexey Navalny upon arrival in Moscow is unacceptable. I call on Russian authorities to immediately release him," he wrote on his Twitter account.

Navalny, who was wanted for violating terms of his suspended sentence under the Yves Rocher case, was detained on Sunday at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport upon arrival from Berlin.
