Broken-hearted blues trigger suicide attempt in St. Petersburg church

According to the hospital’s press service, the man is in intensive care in serious, but stable condition

ST. PETERSBURG, June 10. /TASS/. A man, who tried to shoot himself in a church in St. Petersburg on Thursday, has been operated on and is in intensive care in serious condition, the hospital’s press service said.

"He is in intensive care in serious, but stable condition," the hospital said, adding that he had been operated on overnight.

A source in the law enforcement services told TASS that the man was in a distraught state of lovesickness, which drove him to his suicide attempt.

The man came into the church after the evening service and shot himself in the head presumably with a traumatic pistol, according to Natalya Rodomanova, spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Church. Police and ambulance personnel were summoned, and the individual was rushed to a hospital, she said.

Church officials expressed hope that the man would make a full recovery and get psychological help.
