If US does not resume nuclear tests, Russia will not start them either — senior diplomat

"There are influential people in the American system who really think that the treaty (the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty - TASS) is unnecessary. So we need to anticipate the risks of such developments for our national security," Sergey Ryabkov pointed out

GENEVA, March 2. /TASS/. Russia will not start nuclear tests if the United States does not resume them, but one should be prepared for the worst, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said at a press conference on Thursday.

"As Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his State of the Nation Address to the Federal Assembly, we should be ready to follow the example of the US in case it decides to resume nuclear tests. The key word here is ‘if’. If the US does not start tests, we will not start them either. But we have to be prepared for the worst," he said.
