Several months needed to understand Russia-US summit’s results, senior diplomat says

The Russian-US summit, initiated by Washington, took place in the Swiss city of Geneva on June 16

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. A few months will be needed to say whether the Russian-US summit has drastically changed bilateral relations, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the 25th annual Russian investors’ conference on Wednesday.

"The tone [of the summit] was rather business-like, pragmatic, and down-to-earth. Both countries’ leaders were able to convey their ideas to the world community after the summit so as to preserve the spirit of key results. It seems to me that several months will be needed to be able to say for sure whether the summit has led to drastic changes, broadly speaking," Ryabkov said.

The high-ranking diplomat also highlighted the agreement between the two presidents on returning envoys to Washington and Moscow. "At the meeting, the leaders of both states agreed that they would be able to leave behind strange and secondary problems that have been in place since the time of previous administrations," he stated.

The Russian-US summit, initiated by Washington, took place in the Swiss city of Geneva on June 16. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Joe Biden discussed the state and the prospects of the further development of bilateral relations, the issues of strategic security, as well as international matters, including cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 and ironing out regional conflicts.
