MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. The State Academic Bolshoi Theater is scheduled to tour China in July 2023, negotiations are underway. There is also the possibility of it performing at the opening of the Bolshoi Theater’s new stage in Beijing in October, the theater’s General Director Vladimir Urin told TASS on Friday.
"We are currently discussing the possibility of a week-long performance at the Bolshoi Theater in China in July. <…> There are no exact dates, the contract has not yet been signed. In July we’ll be performing Don Quixote for sure (the ballet — TASS) if everything goes well," he said.
Furthermore, according to Urin, negotiations are currently underway for the troupe of the Bolshoi or Mariinsky theaters to perform at the opening of the new stage of the main theater in Beijing in October.
"The opening of the new building is indeed expected in October. While preliminary negotiations are underway, it has not yet been determined who will open the stage of the Bolshoi Theater (in China - TASS)," he said.
Previously, Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Envoy of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation, said that the Bolshoi Theater may tour China in 2023. It is also possible that the Mariinsky Theater will tour the country.
Don Quixote is one of the oldest ballets of the Bolshoi Theater. It has undergone many restorations and modernizations. It is now presented in a choreographic version by Alexey Fadeyechev.
