Turkmenistan to expand strategic ties with Russia — Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

The chairman of the People’s Council also expressed appreciation to Federation Council Speaker for attention to development of "relations of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation with Turkmenistan"

MOSCOW/ASHGABAT, April 8. /TASS/. Turkmenistan is ready to expand cooperation with Russia based on principles of strategic partnership, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during a telephone conversation with Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko.

According to information provided by Turkmenistan’s embassy in Russia, Berdimuhamedov confirmed the republic’s readiness to "expand comprehensive cooperation between the two countries based on principles of strategic partnership, with ties between parliaments being its important part." He also expressed appreciation to Federation Council Speaker for attention to development of "relations of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation with Turkmenistan."

Turkmenistan’s state agency TDH said that Matviyenko and Berdimuhamedov discussed efforts to boost the dialogue between the two countries on a wide range of areas, noting that bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, transport and agriculture was given renewed momentum over the past several years.
