Russian envoy to Vienna, IAEA head discuss safety of Zaporozhye NPP

Rafael Grossi visited the plant on March 29 and inspected its territory

VIENNA, April 6. /TASS/. Russia's permanent envoy to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Raphael Grossi discussed the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant during a personal meeting, the Russian diplomat reported on his Telegram channel on Thursday.

"Met today with the IAEA Director General Mr. Rafael Grossi to discuss a wide range of issues of common interest, including protection of nuclear safety and security at the ZNPP (the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant - TASS). Regular dialogue with the Head of the Agency is very valuable," Ulyanov said.

Grossi visited the plant on March 29 and inspected its territory. He was shown the facilities damaged as a result of Ukrainian shelling. In particular, he saw the place where one of the missiles landed, hitting area between the coolant tanks at Unit 4. This is Grossi's second visit to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in six months (his first visit was on September 1, 2022).

The day before, the IAEA head visited Kaliningrad and discussed the issue of the plant’s safety with high-ranking representatives of several Russian agencies.
