The negotiated quota stood at 2,050 metric tons of seafood in 2023

TOKYO, March 11. /TASS/. Representatives of Russia and Japan have started discussing terms of salmon and trout catching by Japanese fishermen in the 200-mile exclusive economic zone of Japan for the current year of 2024, the Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.

"Negotiations in the online format will continue until March 14," the ministry said. The negotiated quota stood at 2,050 metric tons of seafood in 2023. Payments made from the Japanese side totaled 200 mln yen ($1.3 mln).

Russia and Japan are engaged in commercial fishing in 200-mile exclusive economic zones of each other on the basis of the 1984 agreement. The countries are holding consultations annually to negotiate seafood catching quotas and to discuss other issues.
