MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. US basketball legend Michael Jordan is the highest paid athlete of all-time, beating out American golfer Tiger Woods and Portugal’s renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who were 2nd and 3rd respectively, US-based sports business web portal Sportico reported on Tuesday.
According to the portal, adjusting for inflation, Jordan, the 62-year-old six-time NBA champion, has earned $4.15 billion. Fifteen-time major champion Woods follows His Airness with $2.79 billion and five-time Champions League winner and five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or Award Ronaldo comes in third with $2.23 billion.
"Our earnings estimates are based on conversations with industry insiders, Sportico research and historical estimates in media outlets, such as Forbes and Sports Illustrated," according to Sportico.
"Earnings include salaries, bonuses, prize money, purses, endorsements, licensing, royalties, memorabilia, book deals, media, appearance fees and golf course design fees. The salary components do not include deferred compensation until it is paid out," the portal states.
The rest of the Top-10 list is as follows: LeBron James (US, basketball, $1.88 billion); Lionel Messi (Argentina, football, $1.85 billion); Arnold Palmer (US, golf, $1.82 billion); Jack Nicklaus (US, golf, $1.75 billion), David Beckham (UK, football, $1.61 billion); Roger Federer (Switzerland, tennis, $1.59 billion) and Floyd Mayweather (US, boxing, $1.52 billion).
