Kremlin says exchanging Medvedchuk for those who left Azovstal unlikely

Dmitry Peskov added that exchanges have been taking place on a constant basis

MOSCOW, May 23. /TASS/. Discussing an exchange of Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk for the nationalists who came out of the Azovstal steel plant is hardly possible, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"We have said already that Medvedchuk is a citizen of Ukraine, he has nothing to do with Russia, and he is not a serviceman, while the ones who surrendered at Azovstal, those are servicemen and members of nationalist formations," the presidential spokesman said, when asked by a TASS reporter about a potential exchange.

"Therefore, these are completely different categories of individuals, and discussing any exchange is unlikely," Peskov stressed.

"In general, exchanges have been taking place on a constant basis," Peskov said, adding that the Defense Ministry has been dealing with the processes.

"It’s important to us, and the reason why is obvious, but it’s the military who have been dealing with this, and it’s them who will [comment] if necessary," the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
