LONDON, March 27. /TASS/. The US administration intends to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine before US President Donald Trump's first 100 days in office expire on April 30, The Economist wrote.
The British media outlet names 10 priority areas of Trump's work in the first 100 days of his presidency: ending the conflict in Ukraine, closing the southern border of the United States, beginning a large-scale campaign to arrest and deport undocumented immigrants, imposing a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico, reducing inflation, increasing oil and gas production, ending the previous US administration's significant climate policies, banning trans athletes from competing, abolishing birthright citizenship, as well as commuting the sentences of individuals involved in the Capitol riot.
The magazine marked only one goal as reached - 1,500 participants in the attack on the Capitol were pardoned. Trump made this decision immediately after his inauguration on January 20. The Economist noted "progress" in the fight against illegal crossings on the US border with Mexico and "minimal progress" in resolving the Ukraine conflict.
On March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation during which they discussed the situation in Ukraine, measures to prevent escalation, and various international issues. Putin endorsed Trump’s proposal for a 30-day mutual pause in strikes on energy infrastructure by both parties involved in the conflict.
On March 24, expert consultations were held between Russia and the United States in Riyadh. Moscow and Washington agreed to implement the Black Sea initiative, which focuses on ensuring safe navigation and prohibiting the use of commercial vessels for military purposes. The sides also agreed to develop steps to cease fire on energy facilities in Russia and Ukraine for 30 days. The Kremlin said that the Black Sea agreements between Russia and the US will come into force only after lifting of sanctions on Russian ships, the Russian Agricultural Bank and other banks involved in the export of agricultural products.
