Several missing medical workers found dead in southern Gaza, Hamas says

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said earlier that the fate of nine doctors detained by Israeli troops remained unknown

CAIRO, March 29. /TASS/. Several members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, who went missing earlier, have been found dead in the south of the Gaza Strip, Hamas said in a statement on Telegram.

"The bodies of several medical workers have been found in southern Gaza. The bodies were lying next to destroyed ambulance vehicles. All of them were killed after they entered the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in the city of Rafah during an Israeli bombardment," the statement reads. Hamas did not specify the number of the medical workers.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said earlier that the fate of nine doctors detained by Israeli troops remained unknown. Previously the organization accused the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of attacking an ambulance car and illegally detaining doctors. It lost contact with four medical teams heading to Rafah after Israeli forces had stopped them in an area that had come under attack. Later the Red Crescent said that "the Israeli authorities turned down any proposals or attempts to send rescuers to the Rafah area where the doctors were."

On March 18, the Israeli military resumed military operations in Gaza, carrying out intensive strikes on the enclave. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the move was due to Hamas’s rejection of proposals put forward by mediators and US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff. According to the Israeli authorities, the goal of the operation is to ensure the release of all hostages held in Gaza. Hamas, in turn, blamed Israel and the US for the resumption of military activities.
