DUBAI, March 27. /TASS/. Iran wants to get a better feel for the position of the United States and lay out its own conditions for resuming discussions on its nuclear program by holding indirect talks mediated by third parties, Kamal Kharazi, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and head of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, said.
"Of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran has not closed all paths and is ready for indirect talks to evaluate the other side, present its conditions, and make an appropriate decision," ISNA quoted him as saying.
Kharazi criticized US officials for forgetting their history, accusing them of repeating past mistakes in their dealings with Iran. "They think they can drag us into negotiations whose outcome is already predetermined," he remarked.
The Iranian official also called on US President Donald Trump to learn from his previous missteps, urging him to better understand Iran's unique characteristics and the mindset of its people in order to address the longstanding differences between Washington and Tehran.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that direct talks with the US over Iran's nuclear program were impossible as long as Washington continued to rely on threats, sanctions, and its policy of maximum pressure against the Islamic Republic. However, he emphasized that Tehran remained open to indirect consultations with the US government.
On March 7, Trump wrote on his Truth Social page that he had sent a message to Khamenei proposing negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program. In response, the Iranian leader dismissed the offer, stating that Iran would not engage in dialogue with the US, as Washington is solely driven by its own interests.
