UNITED NATIONS, April 26. /TASS/. The threat of nuclear provocations at the Ukrainian nuclear power plants remains, the statement issued on Tuesday by the Russian mission to the United Nations said.
"During the Special Military Operation on demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine the Russian Armed Forces took full control over the Chernobyl and Zaporozhye nuclear power plants (NPP)," the mission pointed out, "This was done to prevent Ukrainian nationalist or other terrorist groups, as well as foreign mercenaries, from using the situation in the country to organize a nuclear provocation, the risks of which undoubtedly still exist."
The mission stressed that the actions of the Russian military do not affect in any way the security of the Ukrainian nuclear facilities. "The Russian military personnel do not interfere with the work of the operator of the Zaporozhye NPP. Radiation level is under control and within the normal range," the statement said. It noted that Moscow maintains "constant contact with the IAEA Secretariat and regularly informs the Agency about the state of the Zaporozhye NPP."
At the same time, the mission reminded that all responsibility for nuclear safety at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant lies with Ukraine, which was given control over the facility back in late March and this is confirmed by a written agreement. "No claims have been made," the report states.
"Russia is determined to continue to do everything it can so that the safety of the nuclear facilities in Ukraine is ensured at the appropriate level," the diplomatic mission concluded.
