Foreign mercenaries are liability for Ukrainian military, expert says

Ruslan Pukhov also warned that the Ukrainian army could become a global concern once the conflict concludes

MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. Mercenaries from foreign countries are a liability for Ukraine’s armed forces, Ruslan Pukhov, the head of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST), said in an interview with TASS.

"Individuals from various countries, of different ages, physical abilities, and military training, are more of a burden for Ukraine at this time. While their presence may serve propaganda purposes - creating videos and showcasing them - they do not constitute a genuine fighting force," Pukhov stated. He explained that there were currently two types of mercenaries in Ukraine: motivated soldiers driven by Russophobic sentiments and an "indistinct mass" that is primarily interested in monetary gain.

Pukhov also warned that the Ukrainian army could become a global concern once the conflict concludes. He anticipates that a substantial number of servicemen will be discharged, leading to a rise in crime across Eastern Europe. "Some may even offer their services to terrorist organizations, while others might hasten to Latin America to be recruited by drug cartels," he added.
