Putin visits Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine

This advanced fourth-generation multipurpose nuclear submarine entered service with the Russian Navy on December 27, 2024

MURMANSK, March 27. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Arkhangelsk nuclear-powered submarine of the Yasen-M class (Project 885M), a TASS correspondent reported.

This advanced fourth-generation multipurpose nuclear submarine entered service with the Russian Navy on December 27, 2024. It carries all the types of seaborne missile weaponry capable of effectively striking both sea and coastal targets. Its crew has completed the cycle of basic training and is ready for missions at sea.

The nuclear-powered submarine Arkhangelsk was laid down on March 19, 2015. The ceremony of rolling out the sub from the slipway took place on November 29, 2023. The Arkhangelsk became the 141st nuclear-powered submarine constructed for the Russian Navy at the Sevmash Shipyard. A nuclear reactor was physically launched on the submarine on March 17, 2024. The sub started shipbuilders’ sea trials on June 11 and entered into service on December 27.

In late January 2025, the submarine arrived at its permanent base of the Northern Fleet.
