New fuel oil emissions found along Black Sea coastline — Krasnodar Region’s authorities

Pollution with oil products was recorded in four sections of the coast

KRASNODAR, March 25. /TASS/. Fuel oil emissions along the Black Sea’s coastline near Anapa in the Krasnodar Region have been detected again after a two-day break, the regional operational headquarters reported in the Telegram channel.

Pollution with oil products was recorded in four sections of the coast.

"On March 25, small emissions of fine fractions of fuel oil were confirmed in four sections of the Anapa coastline," the report says.

On December 15, 2024, the Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 tankers sank in the Kerch Strait area in the Black Sea amid a storm. One sailor died, and the rest were evacuated. According to emergency services, the tankers were carrying about 9,200 tons of fuel oil. An oil spill occurred in the Black Sea as a result of the accident, and clean-up operations are ongoing.

According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, about 2,400 tons of oil products have leaked into the Black Sea, much less than initially estimated.

On December 26, 2024, a federal level state of emergency was introduced due to the oil spill.

The length of the coastline, which is monitored for new emissions, is 265 km. Almost 148,000 tons of contaminated soil have been collected there. In Crimea and Sevastopol, almost 750 km of the coast is under control.

In the coastal zone of Anapa and the Temryuk district, diving groups of the Ministry of Emergency Situations have collected almost 100 tons of fuel oil from the bottom. Divers of the Marine Rescue Service and the regional emergency rescue service are also involved in the spill liquidation. They have examined more than 3 million 876 thousand square meters of the bottom of the Black Sea. In addition, more than 6 tons of fuel oil have been collected and raised from the bottom using three ejector units.
