China set to lift restrictions for Russian tourists ‘in near future’ — Russian ambassador

'Rail services have not yet resumed, but we expect this to happen' soon, Igor Morgulov says

BEIJING, March 3. /TASS/. China is likely to remove restrictions on Russian tourists’ visits in the near future, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said in an interview with China Central Television broadcast on Friday.

"From Russia, there are no restrictions on the entry of Chinese tourists. We are looking forward to our Chinese friends making a similar decision. Our Chinese friends say that it will happen shortly, and we are very much hoping for that to transpire," he said.

The ambassador stated that before the pandemic, about a million Russian tourists visited China annually. The diplomat pointed out that the two countries were gradually normalizing air travel. Aeroflot, Russia’s flag carrier, operates three flights per week to Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai.

"Rail services have not yet resumed, but we expect this to happen in the near future," he concluded.
