MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Kasatka signal relay drones, which can also be used as decoys, mimicking, for example, Geran attack drones, have been developed in Russia, the People’s Front has told TASS.
"We decided to make a drone and called it Kasatka (killer whale) for its streamlined forms. Flying at an altitude of one to two kilometers, it can transmit direct radio commands at a range of up to 50 kilometers to quadcopter suicide drones Tribunal. Initially, while developing a drone of this type, we realized that it would be multifunctional: for military purposes it can be used as a decoy to confuse the enemy and direct an air defense missile at a decoy, which costs far less than a more expensive drone - for example, Orion. Or Geran, because if it is equipped with special reflectors, air defense radars would mistake it for Geran in size," said the CEO of Novosibirsk-based firm Aerofregat, Nikolay Zhernov.
Currently the main function of the Kasatka drone is to relay radio signals, but it can also be used as a kamikaze UAV.
"It can carry up to 3 kg of explosives and fly at a range of up to 70 km, staying in the air from 40 minutes to one hour," Zhernov explained.
Earlier, the Popular Front mentioned the drone Tribunal from Novosibirsk engineers, having a range of more than 10 kilometers.
The People’s Front’s Kulibin-club - a group of do-it-yourselfers and enthusiasts - is engaged in the selection, testing and support of serial production of the best products and ideas from domestic engineers. Thanks to this initiative, thousands of innovative means of electronic warfare capable of countering enemy drones, quadcopters, self-propelled robot carts and other items have been made available to troops on the front line.
