DONETSK, January 22. /TASS/. American Daniel Martindale, who worked for Moscow behind Ukrainian lines for two years, has compared Russia to a big family, while "everybody is at war" in the United States.
"You always have this whole atmosphere in the United States, where mostly everybody's in war with each other. Russia, on the other hand, at least today, I feel is more like a big family. Yes, some of the kids might be adopted, maybe they don't share everything the way they should, some of the kids are even adults, some of them are still toddlers and so you have fighting, <...>, but it never gets to the point of war like in the United States," Martindale said.
He also compared Russian President Vladimir Putin to the head of a family who "is there to fix the problems when things get out of hand." "In the end we're all family, so I hope that things will get better in the United States, but I can say for sure that they are getting better in Russia," Martindale concluded.
Martindale had been in Ukraine since February 11, 2022. Having proactively established contact with Russian security agencies, he reported the coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities for two years. The data he provided was repeatedly used to carry out strikes on the infrastructure, equipment, and personnel of the Ukrainian army.
On October 27, 2024, Russian servicemen conducting combat missions near the village of Bogoyavlenka in the Donetsk People's Republic extracted him from the combat zone and brought him to Donetsk.
