Seven people injured in earthquake in Tokyo area

The victims suffered mostly bruises, the fire service reported

TOKYO, August 23. /TASS/. At least seven people have been injured, mainly bruised, as a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit the Greater Tokyo area on the night of Sunday, according to the fire service, which serves as the country’s emergency medical service.

The strong tremors lasted about 20 seconds - furniture swayed in Tokyo, dishes fell, and the alert system was activated everywhere.

According to the country’s meteorological authority, the earthquake’s epicenter was located in Ibaraki Prefecture, which is adjacent to Tokyo, and the focus was at a depth of 68 km.

Immediately after the earthquake, a tsunami threat was declared, but was lifted a few minutes later. No abnormal situations were recorded at the nuclear facilities, and railway traffic was suspended, but it is now running as scheduled.
