WASHINGTON, January 22. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said people shouldn’t forget that Russia "helped us" win World War II.
"We must never forget that Russia helped us win the Second World War, losing almost 60,000,000 lives in the process," he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
In the same post he said, "I love the Russian people, and always had a very good relationship with President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin."
The Soviet Union suffered the heaviest losses in World War II. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Soviet Union’s total irrecoverable losses were 26.6 million people, of which about 18 million were civilians and about 8.7 million were military servicemen. That includes 1 million Soviet soldiers and officers that gave their lives for the liberation of Europe.
